Maryland Court Records
The Maryland State Courts page provides an up-to-date overview of the state's judicial system. The Maryland court system underwent a major rebranding in December 2022, when voters approved a constitutional amendment renaming its highest courts to align with those of most other states.
The judiciary operates across four general levels: the Supreme Court of Maryland, the Appellate Court of Maryland, Circuit Courts, and the District Court. There is also an Orphans' Court, which is a specialized court in each county that handles wills, estates, and probate matters.
Access to Maryland judicial records is primarily governed by the Maryland Rules of Procedure, specifically Title 16, Chapter 900. These regulations cover the five types of judicial records in the state: administrative records, case records, license records, notice records, and special judicial unit records. These records are generally public and may be accessed by anyone. However, some records are restricted and require authorization to access. This website does not disseminate official records and should not be used as a substitute for professional legal advice.
